Membership Classifications in OKCMAR
The OKCMAR is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and of the Oklahoma Association of REALTORS®. By virtue of this membership, all of its REALTOR® members are also members of NAR and OAR.
REALTOR® Member.
To become a member, primary or secondary, and be entitled to use the term REALTOR®, you must:
- Have a valid license issued by the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission or a valid certificate issued by the Oklahoma Real Estate Appraisal Board;
- Be actively engaged in the real estate profession;
- Abide by the Bylaws;
- Uphold the Code of Ethics of the NAR;
- Successfully complete the Code of Ethics and New Member Orientation course.
An individual is a primary member if the Association pays the state and national dues based on such member; a secondary member if state and national dues are remitted through another board or association.

OKCMAR Steps to Becoming a REALTOR®
- Pass your real estate exam at the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission
- Confirm that your broker has sent in your notice of real estate employment to the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission
- Download the REALTOR application, MLS User Agreement, Key Agreement forms at www.okcrealtors.com
- The most efficient and effective means possible of disseminating property data
- Complete the application an appropriate MLS forms (broker’s signature required on the MLS user agreement form)
- Use the Membership table on www.okcrealtors.com to determine your dues
- Bring your completed applications, payment, Real Estate License and drivers license to the OKCMAR offices at 3131 NW Expressway, Monday –Friday between 8-5. You will go to the Membership Department on the 1st floor.
- Upon joining you will receive your National Association of REALTORS® ID number
- If you would like MLS access and/or a Lock Box Key you will be required to complete MLS Basic and MLS Rules and Regulations classes in the OKCMAR computer lab. (Check online at www.okcrealtors.com for computer lab current schedule)
- Upon completion of your MLS classes you will go to the 3rd floor MLS department to receive your Lock Box Key and MLS id and login.
- You must complete the National Association of REALTORS® code of ethics online course within 30 days of joining and prior to attending the New Member Orientation.
- Attend the OKCMAR New Member Orientation within 30 days of your join date held twice monthly. Registration is required for this course.
- Get involved with your Association! Attend classes, events, join a committee!
Commercial Industrial Division (CID) Member.
The CID exists to promote and facilitate marketing of commercial and industrial real estate through its members by achieving

- A regulatory and public policy environment which is favorable toward the ownership, use, improvement and transfer of commercial and industrial real estate

- Informal networking luncheons are held every other month where members can exchange property information, ideas and concerns with other industry leaders.
- Formal luncheons with industry related speakers are held in alternate months to allow for more networking opportunities and a chance for members to learn more about the Oklahoma City Metro area, economic issues, city issues and ordinances, new businesses coming into the area, and other topics that affect CID members.
- The annual bus tour, held each June, is another opportunity for members to network in a relaxed environment and see new commercial properties or old commercial properties that have been renovated.
- CID promotes a congenial cooperative brokerage environment by creating unity in the real estate profession and maintaining professional standards of practice.
REALTOR MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
Affiliate Member.
This category includes those un-licensed individuals, firms or corporations actively engaged in developing, financing, investing or instructing or in the abstract or title business, or industry related to products or services entities. Affiliate memberships will also be granted to individuals licensed or certified to engage in real estate practices who are engaged exclusively in a specialty of the real estate business other than the brokerage of real property.

The Governing Body of OKCMAR
The elected officers and directors manage business and affairs of the Association. The governing body is the Board of Directors, which consists of not less than 14, nor more than 17, members in good standing. All of the directors are from the rolls of REALTOR® members of the Association. One of the REALTOR® members of the Board of Directors is the Vice President of the Commercial/Industrial Division (CID). These directors serve for two-year overlapping terms, except the Vice President of the CID Division who serves for a one-year term.
Within fourteen days after the annual election, the newly elected and holdover directors meet and elect officers for the coming year. The president must have had at least one year’s experience on the Board of Directors and must be a REALTOR® member in good standing.
OKCMAR Member Advantages
There are many active committees in which you may participate. REALTOR® Affiliate and Institute Affiliate members may serve on Task Forces. The Association staff can also provide you with information regarding a wide range of professional organizations you may wish to join.
At the Association office you will find a library, telephones, computer and business forms for your use. Your Association also provides forms online located at (www.MLSGateway.com) and a Multiple Listing Service (MLS).
Your local Association works in conjunction with OAR for legislation that serves the interests of the real estate industry and seeks to defeat those measures that would be harmful to the industry.
